He stood on the corner
Then crossed on the green
Been doing this 90 years it seemed
His awareness controlled his nervous gait
In his younger years he'd cross with a hurried pace
To school the park and every other place
What's different now to then
This street he'd cross and back again
On sunny days in rain and snow, as a boy with his dog
Later with his wife and kids in tow
Nothing about this street had changed
The light pole, fire box nor it's name
He crossed this street to go to work
Visit his folks and Sunday church
There were friendly hello's and painful goodbyes
Truth's heard as well as some lies
The seasons went from warm to cold
Cars were bought and houses sold
Moved away then back he came
This street he crossed remained the same
He found himself between young and old
Countless stories he has told of
Trials won and loved ones gone
His memory only slightly fades
As he thinks of days long passed
But this street he's crossed for all his life
Stays still and so steadfast
With thoughts of happiness
And sometimes tears
He continues on his way
His days are not as busy now
With lots of time to pray
He wonders if he's done enough
Not one to be content
Is there something else to do
So to deem his life well spent
On the corner the answer waits
It's been there all along
This street he's crossed
In God's name with faith
Has lead him right from wrong
