Across the room
An older man
Is drinking
Fine red wine
Maybe our
Life stories
Have somehow
Intertwined
Does he have
A loving mom
Remembered since
The age of three
Or a dad
He could hardly wait for
To climb up on his knee
And fall asleep
To children's poems
One's he loved to read
Which years in school
Did he like best
Was he nervous
Taking tests
Did he ride a bike
And throw a ball
Enjoy quiet times
And free for alls
Did he carry her books
While holding hands
Bait fish hooks
With bread and jam
Is he proud
Of where he's from
Has he taken account
How far he's come
Is his old town
And home
Both missed
And does he reminisce
About first true love
And it's
Goodnight kiss
His teenage
Part time job
Was it hard
Or did he find it fun
Much like
Long Island summers
Spent swimming
In the sun
Is his wife
Even more lovely
Then as she was
On their wedding day
And are his children
Settled in life
Now they have
All been raised
Oh so many years
Have passed
In agreement
I know we can
Reflect on them all
In hopes they will last
With the smile
Of a child
And the wink
Of an older man
