Last night as I fumbled
For the cool side of the pillow
I thought
Where have the years gone
Could I have lost some
Where did they go
As I fell off to sleep
Just for a moment
It seemed like a minute
I began feverishly dreaming
As our loved ones were cheering
The best man was toasting
Our wonderful couple
And we were all in it
Faintly I heard the alarm
Oh don't let this dream end
As I felt her tug on my arm
Tossing in bed Please don't
Ran through my head
Don't let it end
Over and over
Then I heard once again
Good morning darling
A nervous tone to her voice
Did you sleep well
Yes, sure was my answer of choice
My acting was poor
And for her so easy to tell
Then I looked to the heavens
In the distance bells ringing
Lightly footsteps were treading
Our angels were
Dancing and singing
The church steeple will chime
As the clock strikes eleven
We all will be seated
At Elizabeth and Michaels
Glorious wedding
And so we keep dreaming
Each step taken seemed like a mile
Together father and daughter
As we walked down the isle
I kissed our girl sweetly
Then we exchanged happy smiles
How proud they are of her
Grandfathers grandmothers
How much do they love her
Sister and brother
Was all I kept thinking
I asked Our Lady to pray for us all
And near her please stand
It was all I could say
As I turned slowly
her mother was
Just a few feet away
She gave me the strength
To let go her soft hand
Soon I found myself near him
He was still as the night
Anxious as we've all been
Though his hand shook just right
A bead on his cheek
Was doused swift and discretely
He was handsomely dressed
Ever so neatly
His smile for her
Bright as the moon in late evening
His eyes glistened
As they captured her beauty
They both knelt at the alter
Respectfully beaming
And so we keep dreaming
Just after their nuptials
Had come to an end
The newlyweds found themselves
Received by family and friends
The meal delighting
The music exciting
It was our fortune
To be seated
near them again
From him, a curious question
As he gazed at his
Joyful young wife
Short on answers
But long on suggestion
I am in this stage of my life
His query was humble
With slight reservation
His words a whisper
Almost a mumble
As he quietly asked
Have you ever seen
Such a beautiful girl
In such a lovely dress
My reply was obliging
Yet without hesitation
Oh yes yes many many times
To him I directly confessed
His brow raised
And my memory
Of all those days
Caused me to sigh
I saw her first, in her mothers
Gentle green eyes
On a very warm 27th of August
The year nineteen, eighty three
It was on that wonderful day
Such a beautiful girl
In such a lovely dress
Married me
And so we keep dreaming.
Dear Elizabeth and Michael, Congratulations on your Wedding Day, Sept 13, 2014. May you always remember this glorious day during your lifetime of happiness together. Love Dad
Irish Blessing.
May the blessing of the rain be on you--
the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit
so that all the little flowers may spring up,
and shed their sweetness on the air.
May the blessing of the great rains be on you,
may they beat upon your spirit
and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there many a shining pool
where the blue of heaven shines,
and sometimes a star.
